For more than 100 years, P&G and our brands have made military support a top priority. During World War I, Gillette assisted American prisoners of war by making survival kits containing secret supplies, including razor-blade compasses and maps of enemy territory.
Years later, at the start of World War II, Old Spice founder William Lightfoot Schultz converted his factory into a military production facility, and everywhere American servicemen went, Old Spice followed. The signature scent became synonymous with the United States’ courageous soldiers all over the globe.
Today, P&G continues this legacy as one of the largest employers of military veterans globally. We support servicemen, servicewomen and their families through important partnerships, such as Operation Homefront — a national nonprofit whose mission is to build strong, stable and secure military families. By teaming up, P&G and Operation Homefront are empowering military families throughout their life journey.
Empowering families to start strong and stay strong
Members of the military are committed to our country and their families. They make countless sacrifices during their service. And often, their transition back to civilian life is not easy — with many facing incredible challenges, financial and otherwise.
Alongside Operation Homefront, P&G is here to help provide strength, stability and comfort. Since 2016, P&G has donated more than $6.3 million in cash and in-kind donations to Operation Homefront, helping military families who struggle to make ends meet. The partnership is furthering Operation Homefront’s ability to make tremendous positive impacts on so many lives.
A simple mission
Operation Homefront is committed to serving our military families in their times of need because they have served all of us in our nation’s time of need. The organization’s mission is to build strong, stable and secure military families by providing critical financial assistance, transitional and permanent housing, and recurring family-support programs to our veterans. This helps to ensure a short-term need does not become a long-term chronic struggle.
The group’s Critical Financial Assistance program helps families who are struggling with rent and mortgage payments, home and car repairs, utility bills, groceries and more — ensuring that a military family’s basic needs are being met. Financial counseling and home-ownership skills education is offered for those transitioning back to civilian life, so military families are provided with the resources they will need to be successful in their homes and around their communities.
Other family-support programs, including Holiday Meals for Military, Back-to-School Brigade, Homefront Celebrations, and Star-Spangled Babies, help take additional financial stress off families, so they can stay strong at critical times of the year.
